Most mediators are now using AI to a greater or lesser extent, yet questions remain about whether the content generated by these tools adequately protects the privacy of mediators, clients and other parties. The Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner (responsible for Freedom of Information, Privacy and Data Protection) has recently released practical guidance for the Victorian public sector, setting out the opportunities and risks associated with Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), outlining how entities might use GenAI, and providing practical steps to mitigate risk when using these tools.

About the Speaker
Sean Morrison was appointed Victorian Information Commissioner in February 2024. He has significant experience leading the legal responses to key Victorian Government reforms, including Royal Commissions and information-sharing regimes.
Sean has university qualifications in Computer Science and Law, and a Masters of Public Administration. Prior to his role with OVIC, he was appointed as the Special Investigator at the Office of the Special Investigator and served as the General Counsel at multiple Victorian Government departments.
